Get it wherever you want it!!!! You’re the one who’s going to have to see it every day for the rest of your life, not us.

George asks…

Parents and a tattoo?

This year for my birthday my mom sister and i wanted to go get a very small tattoo that i designed on our ankles but my dad thinks ANY tattoo on a woman looks trampy and my mom is scared to ask him and I’m not really sure how to. Hes really old school and i mean REALLY. any ideas of how to propose the idea to him? and please dont tell me not to or its a waste of my time cuz that doesnt help me. thanks in advance.
The thing is i still need perents permission to get the tattoo and my mom wont sign for it unless dad says its ok. Its a really pretty heart with stuff around it and i’ve even shown it to him and he said it was good but not tattooed on someones body. I have to find a way to convince him first????

Vanessa answers:

It’s hard when parents don’t approve. I have 3 tattoos and my parents weren’t crazy about it, but it’s what I wanted to do. You have to live your own life. Your dad may never be convinced, because some people will just never accept tattoos. If it’s tasteful, and since it’s on your ankle, I would try to go for it. I’m sure one of your dad’s issues is that he thinks you’ll regret it later. Make sure it’s something that you can live with, and it’s the tattoo you really want. It took me 3 years to decide on my first tattoo because I wanted to be sure I would still love it later in life. Explain that you’ve put a lot of thought into it, and it’s something that you really want to do. You can get one on your own sooner or later, so explain you’d rather have him be okay with it. If you can show him you’re taking this seriously and it’s not some spur of the moment idea that you’re going to regret when you’re older, hopefully he’ll be more supportive. Make him understand that this is not some rebellious thing or some trendy thing, but something you really want to do. But do be prepared for the fact he may never accept it. Showing him you’re being responsible about the decision will hopefully help him accept it in time. Good luck!

Lisa asks…

I need a tattoo designed!!!!?

I have two tattoos of frogs done that I have been lucky enough to find ‘in shop’.
My problem is I know what I want for my next one but I can’t draw worth any thing!
Is there some one out there who knows someone talented or is talented in tattoo designing?
This one is frogs again, realistic looking.
On my foot climbing up to around and near the ankle if not on it ouch!. Not huge! Wih two or three green tree frogs.
What do you think?
Please no one who doesn’t like tatts should reply! I have had it before and I like tatts!.
I am a nearly 40 year old woman who waited until 38 years of age to get the first one.

Vanessa answers:

Why don’t you just schedule an appointment for your tattoo and tell the tattoo artist what you want and they will draw it up and have it the morning of your appt. And you can say whether you like it or not and they can make any quick changes right before they do your tattoo.

Joseph asks…

Do you think this would be a cute tattoo??

I was thinking of a way to make a tattoo that would be for all my kids (I only have 1 daughter right now, but I’m wanting 3 kids all together). I am going to wait to do this after I’ve had all my kids. I’m wanting to put it on my ankle. But I was thinking each birth month has its own flower so I was wanting to put each flower from each of my kids’ birthmonth into some pretty design with each of their names or initials in it somehow… what do you think of that?? I think it would be cute, I don’t want it giagantic just a nice sized ankle tattoo

another tattoo I want is this: I was watching LA ink one day & this one woman got a pin up type girl tattoo. Well I drag race & I was thinking of getting a pin up type girl in like a racing suit holding a checkered flag with race girl underneath it or something … I dunno, it was just an idea.

what do you think?

Vanessa answers:

The ankle tattoo idea sounds like a beautiful way of honoring your child(ren). I have a tattoo that represents my kids and I love it. It means so much to me and them (they know its meaning, of course) and that’s what counts.

As for the pin up girl tattoo, that too sounds really cute. I love the look of those types of tattoos. Not something I’d get but it would be fitting an meaningful to you and I’ve found that those make the best tattoos.

Mandy asks…

Where should I get my tattoo?

I’m a woman. I’m quite, um, curvy lol. I want a tattoo of the outline of RI with a compass over it. I can’t decide if I should get it on my leg, like the outer side of my calf right about my ankle, or on my arm, like on the inside of my forearm, right below but not touching the inside of my elbow.

I really wanted it on my arm BUT

my arms are one of the more chubby parts on my body

it would be more difficult to hide it on my arm (for like a job interview or something)

I would have to get it much smaller than I originally designed it (I designed it with the assumption it would end up on my leg)

If I ever grow to regret it that would suck

so i thought okay then leg BUT

I really liked the idea that i would see it all the time / i like how inner arm tattoos look better

I know its not true in many cases but i just feel like ABOVE but not on the ankle is a little manly

but it would hurt less on my leg….

and i could get it bigger.

I NEED OPINIONS!

And this is kind of an awkward question for me to ask so please don’t answer if you’re going to be mean, but if I ever am actually able to lose weight… like a dramatic amount… how would it affect how my tattoo looks on my arm vs my leg (i’m 19 and have great skin so I don’t think if that happened I’d have like a ton of loose skin but it still might change right?)
Andy- I’m not comfortable with posting a picture of myself on here… I thought it was common knowledge that “curvy” is what heavy women call themselves.
Andy – I am not one of those girls – I have to shop at plus size stores such as torrid and lane bryant… and have been doing that since hs. hows that? lol

Vanessa answers:

Not meaning to be rude, but can we see a picture of you to get an idea of what you mean by “curvy”?

@sfree: That’s fine, I understand.
My problem is that to hear a woman describe herself as “heavy” is not very specific at all, when there’s girls that weigh 110 calling themselves fat…
